The full description
**January** Strategy & Operations; $130K–$192.5K + equity; New York (Hybrid)
**About Company** At January, we're rebuilding one of the most broken parts of consumer finance: what happens after someone falls behind on debt. Our autonomous, compliant collections platform works directly for creditors, using data and AI to personalize outreach and offer consumers clearer, more compassionate ways to resolve what they owe. Creditors recover more effectively with less risk; consumers get dignity and control during a distressing situation.
January has serviced $20B+ in debt and engaged 20M+ consumers. We outperform traditional agencies by 30%+ for 80%+ of our clients, consumer satisfaction is ~50% higher than at the largest banks, and the product is roughly 300x more efficient than traditional collection agencies. Customers like Affirm and LendingClub stay and expand. We're now growing beyond late-stage debt collection into a multi-product platform, backed by Series B funding, with ~100+ people working out of Nolita, NYC.
**About the Role** This is a new combined role replacing the separate Implementation Consultant and Client Strategy Manager positions. You'll join the Strategy & Operations team to drive decisions and work that directly accelerate January's enterprise growth. Depending on your background, you'll land on one of the team's tracks — client implementations (turning complex integrations into scalable capability), client strategy (deepening relationships and converting them into durable revenue), or compliance (making January's regulatory posture a competitive edge). The role suits someone with diagnostic instinct, operational range, and the ambition to define how January works at scale.
**Responsibilities** - Own operational outcomes end-to-end within your track — from diagnosing problems to shipping solutions, not advisory or support - Build systems, playbooks, and capabilities that compound — eliminate drag through automation, tooling, workflow redesign, or killing low-value work entirely - Turn repeated client situations into systematic capabilities so the next complex escalation, integration, or audit response is handled faster because of the pattern you built - Drive the highest-leverage initiatives from diagnosis through adoption, identifying patterns that should reshape product priorities or go-to-market strategy - Own named outcomes: a portfolio of client relationships and expansion opportunities (Strategy), end-to-end client integrations from contract to first accounts placed (Implementations), or compliance systems that give Sales a concrete edge (Compliance) - Create analytical infrastructure and frameworks that turn ICs into owners — judgment and execution shouldn't bottleneck on any single person
**Required Skills** A. 4+ years in strategy, operations, consulting, or client-facing delivery roles with direct ownership of diagnosing problems and shipping solutions end-to-end B. Experience owning client relationships or client-facing delivery in a high-touch context — managing strategic accounts, leading complex projects, or running engagements as the named point of contact C. Demonstrated ability to structure messy data into insights that changed behavior — comfort working across multiple systems, quantifying business impact to drive decisions D. Experience driving outcomes that depend on teams you don't control — getting Product, Engineering, Legal, or other functions to act on your diagnosis and invest in your recommendations E. Strong educational pedigree
**Bonus Skills** - Technical fluency to build automations and operational tools without engineering support (LLM-assisted workflows, automated reporting, intelligent routing) - Familiarity with financial services, fintech, or regulatory/compliance-heavy industries - SQL, Excel, or BI tools (Mode, Looker, Tableau) proficiency - Background in SaaS implementations, system integrations, or technical consulting
**Logistical Info** - Location: New York City (hybrid, 3+ days per week in-office in Nolita) - Compensation: $130K–$175K (mid-level), $170K–$192.5K (senior); exceptional candidates with management experience can reach ~$215K but prefer to stay below $200K. Equity included. - Number of openings: Multiple — at least 1 implementation-focused and 1 client strategy-focused, likely more - **Other:** Open to relocation for strong non-NYC candidates (must relocate within 60 days); H1B visa transfers (not new sponsorship), case-by-case discussion
**Ideal Background** - Strongest signal — management consulting (Bain, McKinsey, BCG, top-tier firms) combined with operating experience at a high-growth startup or tech company - Also strong — product ops, strategy & operations, or client strategy roles at tech companies, especially fintech or regulated industries - For client strategy track: must have managed client relationships for 12+ months, not just short-term engagements - For implementation track: more technically inclined candidates; those who haven't managed long-term client relationships - Open to non-startup backgrounds if the candidate demonstrates a 0-to-1 mindset, but prefer some product ops/strategy/S&O experience in tech
- Web3/crypto-industry exposure is a strong plus — January's product operates in crypto treasury/investment ops (rejection feedback Sep 2026: candidate lacking Web3 + investment-ops domain fit was passed). **Green Flags** - Utility player — range across strategy and execution; 0-to-1 (has built where infrastructure didn't exist). - Self-generated, high-ambiguity ownership with a measurable, adopted outcome sustained through resistance. - Writes well and structures thinking on paper; candor (direct feedback, hard truths early). - Startup / scrappy-stage pedigree with a standout; a specific, personal reason for January. **Red Flags** - Traditional customer-success / AM / sales background with no operational problem-solving. - Job-hopping — multiple stints under 12 months. - Technical-PM profile without hands-on delivery. - Below the tenure/level bar; no startup or scrappy-stage experience.
