What you would be doing
- Build and enhance AI agents that autonomously handle end-to-end bookkeeping workflows for SMB customers
- Own financial provider integrations with partners like Ramp, Brex, and Gusto from scoping through production
- Build an accounting ledger from the ground up — architecting core financial data infrastructure
- Ship new features daily in TypeScript/Next.js across the full stack (60% frontend, 40% backend)
- Speak directly with test customers and integration partners to gather feedback and drive product decisions
- Take ownership of projects with minimal direction — identify what needs to be done and execute

We're looking for a Staff or Principal Software Engineer with 5+ years of experience to join Synthetic's founding engineering team. We need a builder who is excited to create AI-native systems from the ground up and wants to be a core part of a mission to fully replace human bookkeepers with autonomous AI. This is a high-priority hire as we scale our product, deepen financial integrations, and push toward a fully autonomous bookkeeping agent.
Responsibilities
- Build and enhance AI agents that autonomously handle end-to-end bookkeeping workflows for SMB customers
- Own financial provider integrations with partners like Ramp, Brex, and Gusto from scoping through production
- Build an accounting ledger from the ground up — architecting core financial data infrastructure
