**About the Role**
This is a hands-on support-and-operations role focused on KYB customer onboarding — owning onboarding from signup through KYB approval. It's a fintech onboarding role, not a compliance-specialty role: you need to understand KYB from having done it day to day, not from a compliance-theory background. It's a second, fully dedicated onboarding hire, added to keep pace with a growing customer pipeline.
**Responsibilities** - Own customer onboarding end to end, from first document request to activated account - Run KYB reviews on business entities: corporate structure, beneficial ownership (UBO), source of funds - Apply onboarding and documentation requirements across jurisdictions - Serve as first line of defense, escalating higher-risk cases with a clear recommendation rather than just a flag - Be the primary customer contact through onboarding; resolve documentation issues fast, in writing customers can act on - Respond to partner requests for information accurately and within the required window - Find friction in the onboarding flow and propose process and automation improvements
**Required Skills** A. 2+ years as an onboarding specialist doing KYB (or KYC) onboarding at a fintech B. Hands-on experience verifying business entities and beneficial ownership (UBO) — has done KYB on businesses, not only KYC on individuals C. Working knowledge of customer due diligence across more than one jurisdiction D. Exceptional written and verbal communication — this is most of the job E. Comfortable with high case volume and competing priorities, with nothing dropped F. Autonomous, low-ego self-starter — fully remote, no hand-holding G. Uses AI tools for document review, summarization, and drafting as a matter of course H. Can operate on US Eastern core hours
**Bonus Skills** - Familiarity with onboarding / case-management tooling and a sense of what to automate vs keep human
**Logistical Info** - Location: Remote. Location is flexible provided the person works US Eastern core operating hours — most of the team is in Europe and the US; Pacific is feasible. - Compensation: $70K–$90K base + equity (stock options). - Number of openings: 1. - **Other:** US-based hires are employed via an EOR/PEO model; non-US can be hired as EOR or contractor. Entry-level (L1) role — a few years out of school.
**Ideal Background** - Onboarding / KYB specialist at a fintech (crypto or not) for 1–2+ years — the through-line is fintech onboarding, not compliance theory - Someone who learned KYB "in the trenches" doing the work day to day - Comp/level note: L1 entry-level band; target base ~$80K (posted 70–90). Base ceiling ~$90K. - Client identity: Altitude / Sqds; Phil Jacobson is the hiring manager.
**Green Flags** - Has personally run KYB onboarding for business entities, including layered or offshore ownership structures - Can tell a real risk signal from a missing document and treats them differently - Writes clearly under pressure - Process-minded: has found where an onboarding workflow breaks and rebuilt it rather than working around it - Uses AI tooling for document review and drafting by default
**Red Flags** - Pure compliance-theory background with no hands-on onboarding execution - Only KYC on individuals, never KYB on businesses - Crypto/web3 experience from a NON-permissioned protocol (no KYC/KYB) — a negative signal here; the relevant experience is fintech onboarding with real KYB - Doesn't know what KYB is - Cannot work US Eastern core hours
**Interview Process** 1. Behavioral call (~30 min) with Phil Jacobson (hiring manager) — motivations, background, behavioral signals. 2. Skill-based call (~45–60 min) with Phil — role and skills deep dive (founder call). 3. Take-home task. 4. Panel interview.
