The full description

**Outlast** Finance & Strategy Manager; Upto $200k base + equity; New York City (Hybrid)

**About Company** Outlast operates a marketplace and technology platform for the scrap metal and bulk recyclables industry — a trillion-dollar market still largely run on pen and paper and sticky notes. Built by former recyclers, the platform is positioned as "the simple and secure solution for trading recyclables," matching vetted buyers and sellers across 100+ material types and handling documentation, logistics (domestic and export), payments, and quality control end to end.

The company is profitable — a rare, de-risking position at this stage — and has grown net revenue from roughly $2M to a projected $30–40M this year with a lean team of 10–12 full-time employees (plus contract/temp labor) over the last 4–5 years. Outlast has raised a Series A (backers include Forum Ventures, an early-Airbnb-employee-backed fund called Wave Capital, and AngelPad) and plans to raise a Series B opportunistically around the end of Q1 2027.

People joining now will have a direct hand in defining process, strategy, and the foundation of the company — not just executing against an existing playbook.

**About the Role** This is Outlast's first dedicated Finance & Strategy hire, working alongside the hiring manager (who currently runs finance solo). They'll own the company's financial model and be a critical partner in capital planning ahead of the planned Series B raise.

**Responsibilities** - Build and maintain Outlast's operating/financial model end to end. - Model business cases: deal structures, pricing changes, market entries, CapEx, and hiring scenarios. - Lead capital and runway planning; play a critical role supporting the planned fundraise. - Drive scenario planning and strategic analysis for leadership. - Own monthly management reporting. - Support working capital management and lender/reporting relationships as the business scales.

**Required Skills** A. Driver-based financial modeling built from scratch — not just filling out existing templates — spanning deal structures, pricing, market entry, CapEx, and hiring scenarios. B. 2+ years in investment banking, corporate finance, or high-pressure consulting (McKinsey/Bain/BCG-type), or equivalent hands-on startup finance experience. C. Comfortable owning ambiguous, undefined scope with a genuine bias for action — works the problem before asking for help.

**Bonus Skills** - Direct experience through a live fundraise (debt or equity) — e.g., a banker with IPO experience. - SQL/database querying or other technical fluency; comfortable using AI tools to get more out of the work. - Background in commodities, metals, manufacturing, logistics, industrial businesses, or marketplaces. - Exposure to working capital management and lender reporting. - Strong written communication.

**Logistical Info** - Location: New York City preferred; also open to Austin, Salt Lake City, or San Francisco. Hybrid is workable at this level. - Compensation: Upto $200k base + equity - Number of openings: 1

**Ideal Background** - Analyst-track background in investment banking, corporate finance, or top-tier consulting — ideally 2nd–3rd year, either pre-MBA or actively looking to break into startups. - Alternatively, has already built financial models at a small company/startup — can substitute for traditional IB/consulting pedigree. - Motivated by a ~2-year horizon: grow into more scope at Outlast, or use it as a stepping stone toward a later-stage startup (Series C/D) or business school. - Comp note: No firm number given — client's stated philosophy is "competitive, at or above market median," weighted more toward equity than cash; confirm before sharing specifics with candidates.

**Green Flags** - Has built financial models completely from scratch (driver-based) rather than just filling in existing templates. - Has been through a real raise (debt or equity) — e.g., a banker with IPO experience. - Technically sophisticated — comfortable with SQL/database querying, or uses AI tools to accelerate their work. - Strong writer. - Natural curiosity paired with genuine bias for action.

**Red Flags** - Resume shows a string of 6–12 month stints without a clear, legitimate reason. - No startup/small-company experience and no investment banking/high-pressure consulting background. - Uncomfortable with ambiguity or needs heavy structure/direction.

**Interview Process** 1. Phone screen (~20–30 min) — standardized questions on career goals, professional strengths/weaknesses, and what gives/drains energy at work. 2. Resume walkthrough (~1 hour). 3. Functional interview (~1 hour) — deeper dive on financial modeling skills. 4. Final culture-fit call (~1 hour) with the CEO, VP of Sales, and a couple other team members.
