The full description
We are looking for an Employment Partner with 8+ years of California employment law experience to launch and lead a dedicated employment practice at a sophisticated West LA boutique. This is a rare build-and-own opportunity with immediate internal referral flow from the firm's active Corporate, Real Estate, and Litigation groups — you'll bring your own book and grow it with built-in deal flow.
What will you be doing?
- Building and owning an employment practice from the ground up, with cross-referrals from the firm's busy corporate and real estate transactional teams
- Advising employers on California wage & hour compliance, handbooks, policies, RIFs, and executive/separation agreements
- Defending single-plaintiff employment claims and handling wage & hour class actions and PAGA representative actions
- Supporting M&A and real estate transactions on employment diligence, executive compensation, and post-closing integration matters
- Originating and growing client relationships while mentoring associates as the practice scales
Key Requirements
- 8+ years of defense-side California employment law experience spanning both advice & counsel and litigation
- Portable book of business of at least $350K (ideally $500K+)
- Active California State Bar membership
- Entrepreneurial mindset — excited to build a practice, not inherit one
- Based in or willing to relocate to the Los Angeles area
How hiring runs
- 1Screening Interview with Jennifer Cohen
- 2Interviews with Jeff Sklar and/or Scott Ehrlich
