**Statecraft** Chief of Staff; $100K-$140K base + equity; Remote (DMV-based or relocating, US) with occasional travel (Remote)
**About Company** Statecraft sells AI workers to the US government. Government largely runs on consultants and contractors who cost far more than full-time employees and make up most of what people think of as government staff; that services market is roughly 2-3x larger than the entire government software industry (i.e. 2-3x Palantir). Statecraft supplies AI workers that do the same work - trained and evaluated on the same tasks - at a fraction of the cost, and passes most of the savings to the government.
The product has two cores. Workforce provides the AI workers: agent orchestration, the tools and software the workers build for themselves (all auditable, evidencible, and deterministic, running in a logical code pipeline), plus collaborative tools so agents can work where government already does - email, Outlook, Exchange, SharePoint, Excel. A second offering serves Intel and law-enforcement use cases (AI personas and asset curation; limited detail shared).
Backed by a $6M seed from institutional defense/government investors with deep ties on the Hill and at the DoD. The team is repeat, exited founders and operators from Palantir, Google, AWS, and the Department of State: CTO Priansh Shah (ex-Palantir, led programs across defense, intel, space, health and civil, including a stint on Project Maven), co-founders Ruben and Alex (Yale/Google; the team previously built and exited GovProAI together), and VP of Operations Alan (ex-Department of State GS-15, former Director of IT). Fully AI-native - they build everything internally (their own ATS, an in-house coding-agent harness that beats leading open-source harnesses, an in-house model family in training) and dogfood their own product.
**About the Role** An Associate-level Chief of Staff who serves as an extension of the founding team - most likely 1-3 years into your career (no hard minimum; open a bit wider for the right person), with a track record of learning fast and finishing work that matters. The weighting is on getting things done and the intellectual curiosity to figure out how - traditional ops breadth (people, legal, finance, project management) with no specialty required in any one. You'll work directly with the executive team on research and special projects (define the question, investigate, recommend, carry it through), prepare executive briefings and track decisions/owners/commitments, and own the daily operations that keep the team running: people ops (recruiting, onboarding, offboarding, records, payroll/benefits coordination), finance/bookkeeping/vendors/renewals, legal administration, and exec scheduling/travel/correspondence - plus support for events, PR, and marketing. As you build judgment and trust, you'll take on larger projects with more independence and help decide how the company runs. Fully AI-native - automate the ops itself (briefings, records, follow-ups) with AI and budget.
**Responsibilities** - Own research and special projects end-to-end: define the question, investigate, recommend, and carry it through. - Prepare executive briefings; track decisions, owners, and commitments so projects move forward. - Run people operations: recruiting, onboarding/offboarding, employee records, payroll/benefits coordination. - Manage operating deadlines, routine agreements/renewals, vendors and purchasing within budget, and invoices/payments/expenses/bookkeeping with outside advisors. - Support event planning, PR, and marketing campaigns. - Manage executive scheduling, travel, correspondence, and company meetings/offsites.
**Required Skills** A. US citizen, eligible to obtain and maintain a US security clearance (eligible-and-sponsorable is fine; no active clearance required day one). B. Based in the DMV (Washington DC, Maryland, or Virginia), or willing to relocate to the DMV. C. A track record of taking responsibility and finishing what you start - fast - through work, internships, campus leadership, military/public service, or substantial projects. D. Strong organization and discretion handling sensitive company/employee information. E. Clear written communication; comfort with spreadsheets and checking numbers. F. Comfort working independently and juggling competing priorities; no deep specialty required in any single ops domain.
**Bonus Skills** - Already uses AI tools daily and has automated parts of your own workflow. - Experience supporting an executive or coordinating people/finance/admin operations. - Startup or government-organization experience. - Experience with Justworks, Ramp, Notion.
**Logistical Info** - Location: DMV-based or willing to relocate to the DMV; remote within the DMV until Statecraft opens an office (then in-office required); occasional travel for company events. Must be a US citizen able to obtain/maintain a clearance (eligible is enough). - Compensation: $100K-$140K base + equity. - Benefits/Other: Top-tier medical/dental/vision/life + 401(k) match; unlimited PTO with a "Touch Grass" policy (must take time off, ~2 weeks/yr minimum); 10 holidays + end-of-year break; home-office setup budget; monthly coworking stipend; phone/internet covered; L&D budget; team offsites; max-tier AI subscriptions and large token budgets.
**Ideal Background** - Startup ops generalist, OR someone who has proven elsewhere (military, public service, substantial projects) that they can figure it all out and complete work fast. - Most likely 1-3 years of experience (no hard minimum; open to adjacent ranges for the right person). - High agency, organized, discreet; goes from open question to recommendation to done without being chased. No domain specialty required - breadth and drive over depth. - Bonus: startup or government exposure; already AI-native.
**Green Flags** - Gets things done, fast; intellectual curiosity to figure out how. - Finishes what they start with evidence (projects, leadership, service); strong upward career trajectory. - Organized, detail-oriented, discreet; comfortable with numbers and ambiguity. - High agency and AI-native (automates own workflow); mission-driven and patriotic, but ideologically impartial.
**Red Flags** - Career EAs, or a flat career trajectory - automatic reject. - Needs defined processes / lots of hand-holding; can't operate in ambiguity. - Not DMV-based and unwilling to relocate; strong or overt political views or an anti-US stance.
**Interview Process** (no leetcode; conversation-led) 1. Screen with Alan (VP of Operations). 2. Conversation with Alex (CEO), and optionally Priansh (CTO).
