The full description
**Rubie** Account Executive; $120K base / $240K OTE (flex to ~$300K) + equity; New York City (On-site)
**About Company** Rubie helps software companies win deals by making data migration automatic. Its computer-use and browser-use agents log into whatever system of record a customer is leaving, pull out and clean the data, and move it into the new system — turning what used to be weeks of manual work into a near one-click, end-to-end migration. Software vendors repackage this as part of their post-sales motion, removing the single biggest reason their own deals stall: customers who won't switch because migrating their data is too painful.
Rubie is growing fast. It raised a $15M Series A about six weeks ago (total raised to date; round otherwise unannounced), has nearly 4x'd ARR since the start of the year, runs ~60 active deals in flight, and books 80–100 new meetings a month. Net revenue retention is ~190% — once customers cross an initial trust gap, they hand Rubie their entire migration and post-sales data function. The beachhead market is vertical SaaS (software for fitness studios, dental practices, property managers, and the like), with a longer-term TAM of any software company that has a competitor.
Rubie's mission is to "make the internet liquid" — if you buy software, you should be able to pick up your data and move to a better product at any time. The team is deliberately small, senior, and high-performing; founder/CEO Jimmy McDermott was a CTO for nearly a decade before starting the company. HQ is in Union Square, NYC, in-person five days a week.
**About the Role** Rubie's first dedicated AE hires — the second through fourth sellers in the company — working directly alongside the CEO. There is far more qualified pipeline than the current team can run, so this is a full-cycle closing seat you can step into and start working deals almost immediately, while also helping shape the sales engine as it scales.
**Responsibilities** - Own deals end-to-end, from first contact through close and into expansion. - Work an existing book of qualified pipeline (~$50K average ACV; deals also range into mid/large six figures and approach seven). - Hunt alongside the outbound engine — cold email books 60–80 meetings/month, with SDRs adding cold calls and LinkedIn on top. - Hold your own in technical sales conversations (engineering and security often join reviews and demos), pulling in the CEO or an engineer where needed. - Feed market and product signal back to the team and help codify the sales process beyond the founder.
**Required Skills** A. 4+ years continuous quota-carrying with roughly 2 years average per seat. B. Track record in the top 5–10% of sellers at each stage of your career. C. Full-cycle outbound seller: sources own pipeline and closes technical buyers on a SaaS product. Not channel, marketplace, or partnerships-led; not services or financial products. D. Comfortable learning and selling a technical product to technical buyers in the 5–6 figure deal range. E. Most recent role at a startup under ~50 people. Big-company-only backgrounds will not be considered.
**Bonus Skills** - Experience selling a "pipes"/infrastructure or integration product (data movement, workflow orchestration). - History of fast promotion through sales orgs (e.g. started as an SDR and worked up).
**Logistical Info** - Location: New York City, in-person at the Union Square office 5 days/week — no exceptions. No built-in travel, but willingness to fly to customers for bigger deals matters (day-to-day is mostly calls). - Compensation: $120K base / $240K OTE (50/50 split; ~$900K–$1.2M annual quota depending on final OTE). Can flex to ~$280–300K OTE for storied profiles (5–7 yrs experience). Meaningful equity. - Number of openings: 2–3 (growing through the year). - **Other:** OTE is attainable — the first rep is tracking ~200% to quota after his first 90 days.
**Ideal Background** - Strongest signal — integration/data companies at an early or formative stage: MuleSoft, Workato, Boomi, Merge. - Also strong — "pipes" products that orchestrate movement of data/objects: Snowflake, Databricks, Zapier. - Generalist intensity travels: former college athletes and consistently high performers (sales, academics, sport) tend to do well.
**Green Flags** - Knows their numbers cold and can articulate performance over time. - Entrepreneurial — wants to help build the engine, not just inherit a manicured one. - Can sell without a big brand behind them.
**Red Flags** - Can't articulate or quantify their own numbers/performance. - Has only ever coasted on a strong brand (e.g. entire career at Salesforce), or sat at "hot" startups in order-taking spaces where deals came to them. - Pure closer who won't hunt; short stints without progression.
**Interview Process** 1. 30-min with the CEO — background and what you've sold. 2. 60-min — deeper on a previous role and sales cycle; time for your questions. 3. On-site with a take-home exercise sent ahead; final decision from there.
